Stop Throwing D&I at the Wall

Evidence Based Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion are hot and confusing topics today in business; however, they are not the same. Current research demonstrates having an inclusive organizational culture improves workforce diversity, attraction & retention, job satisfaction, innovation, performance, and company profits, yet it can be quite costly and confusing if the approach is wrong.

Stopping the Blame Game

 Moving Beyond Diversity Training

The U.S. spends on average $8 billion dollars annually on diversity training, yet there is little evidence it has the desired impact. Often, employees who attend these programs walk away feeling blamed or with some unconscious biases affirmed. What if you knew what works and what does not?

We are Focused on the wrong needle

The failed system of Workplace Diversity

For the past two decades organizations have put an incredible amount of attention, money and energy on diversity in the workplace. There are initiatives, training programs, and trends being created with the focus on diversity; yet the numbers do not lie – we are focusing on the wrong needle.

Diversity and the research. McKinsey reported only a third of organizations, focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, are achieving solid advancement, leaving the remaining 65% static or declining. In a study done by Harvard Business Review 78% of employees who responded said they work at organizations that lack diversity in leadership positions. Even more profound White employees represent the largest portion of corporate executives in the nation with only 2% of executives are Black and 3% of executives are Latinx.  Finally when you focus all your diversity attention on just one affinity (gender or persons of color) it has a detrimental effect on everyone else.

If You Build It, They Will Come

The Inclusion Paradigm

Current research repeatedly demonstrates having an inclusive organizational culture within the academic systems and districts improves workforce diversity, attraction & retention, job satisfaction, innovation, and performance. Yet, many organizational systems, districts, leaders, and managers are still focused on workforce diversity. It is time to shift perspectives to inclusion as diversity will follow.

Diversity, Inclusion, Integration -  Oh My!

It is Time to Bring Pivotal Inclusion into the Classroom

Current research demonstrates having an integrated / diverse classroom encourages critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and students feel psychologically safe. It also leads to higher test scores, increased enrollment in colleges, reducing the racial achievement gaps and students are less likely to drop out. It is not surprising the spotlight is focused on Diversity, Inclusion, and Integration in the classroom. Yet, more so than ever before, the academic world is full of confusion, frustration, and landmines when it comes to integrating and teaching diversity and inclusion.
